JOHN Yarnell
Creative Director / Public Artist / Placemaking Advocate
about
John doesn’t just design for place—he listens to it. Then he rolls up his sleeves, layers in story, and builds something that speaks back. Equal parts artist, fabricator, and futurist, he’s spent his life chasing beauty, meaning, and utility—especially in the overlooked corners of our world. From firefighting in the Navy to founding one of Idaho’s most respected environmental design studios, John’s journey has been anything but linear. With over 25 years in creative trades, he’s helped shape how communities see themselves—through wayfinding, public art, identity systems, and human-centered storytelling. As co-founder of Trademark Creative Studio, John leads a team that specializes in experiential design, blending craft and community to elevate public space. His work aims to create connection, foster civic pride, and rid the world of mediocre design—by revealing the beauty and identity already rooted in each place.
